August 20 marked the 125th anniversary of horror writer H. P. Lovecraft, so I thought I could get my sh*t together and draw something. I finally resolved to add color to this dull, old picture: electreel.deviantart.com/art/A… Needless to say, it took me a little longer than I expected.
I modified a couple of things from the original and added a couple more. Can you spot them all?
It's amazing how the fandom has forgotten a lot of these things. Lovecraft herself would disagree with classifying her creatures, even with her own name (She preferred to call the Cthulhu Mythos Yog-sotery, a more appropriate name in my opinion). And personally I like it better that way, not because I am a puritan or because I do not like things like archetypal gods, it is just that, being simpler and without so much classification roll, Lovecraft's universe is more mysterious and less saturated with things which, coincidentally, always fall to the ground. As much as I like Tindalo Hounds or Star Vampires, I prefer this a thousand times. In fact, I think that Lovecraft had two of the Cthulhu myths in her original stories, one that she only named but that another writer put as some kind of bat and the yellow king.
